It was quite a week this week, well actually quite a Wednesday with two big writing things on. I shall cover the second on a separate post but the first took place at Seely School in Nottingham where I had been invited by Mark Barry (aka The Wizard of Notts!) to take part in one of the Brilliant Books sessions with a group of 9-10 year olds.

As Mark does a much better job of this sort of write up if you want to see the full details of what took place together with book choices, an embarrassing photo (oh how I hate to have my photo taken!) and an even more embarrassing video (thanks Mark!) please check out the link below to see the full post from the Wizard himself.

And as for the Green Wizard? Well I can report that he is charming, generous, terrifically good company and as entertaining offline as he is on.

I had the very great pleasure of being treated to a mini tour around beautiful Southwell, better known as Wheatley Fields in his books. From the fabulous house that is depicted in horror thriller The Ritual as the Euripides Clinic to Three Steeples Church and onto the Alfresco Caffe where Jen gets passed the amulet in The Ritual and in the harrowing romance ‘Carla’ the eponymous Carla and John…well I won’t tell you that bit, you’ll just have to read the book won’t you!

I received a gift too (see, I told you he was generous!) this was next on my to read list, the ebook version:-

TNP

Now I have it in glorious paperback, footnotes and all! And if this doesn’t tempt you I don’t know what will –

Eight hundred years worth of hotel

Six million dollars

One man to keep it under control…

The Night Porter! I can’t wait!

  1. Oh, how lovely that you took part in this – and met Mark! I confess, he asked me to take part in it too and I declined, because I can’t speak in public and have zero charisma (I’d never be able to hold anyone’s attention), but I am really glad you did it! Am just going to look at the video.

I’ve read The Night Porter in paperback!!! It’s very, very good indeed, you’ll love it 🙂

    • It was pretty terrifying I have to admit Terry! But I’m so glad I did it. I do not believe for one minute you have no charisma – please remember when you look at the video that the camera adds 20 pounds!! I was not happy but needless-to-say Mark was delighted with it, and himself for taking it! I am very much looking forward to TNP – I’ve had a sneaky peak – couldn’t resist 🙂

  2. It sounds as though you have been keeping busy Georgia. I’ve got Carla on my Kindle and am looking forward to reading it. 🙂

  3. Always like to hear of writers going into schools. My wife is head an infant school and she always comments on how much the children get out of such an event. I also follow Daniel Ingram-Browne on twitter who seems to do a lot of this as well.

(also thanks for the RT today)

    • Hi Ian, good to hear from you and thanks for the comment. It’s reassuring to hear that doing this is worthwhile as it is a bit nerve-wracking. I shall look out for Daniel on twitter and see what he gets up to – thanks for the tip. (Thanks for your RT too and I’ve saved your post to read later, after the day job!)
