Typewriter

I was nominated for the Work in Progress Blog Hop by the highly entertaining Barb Taub who blogs mostly hilarious but also often thought provoking posts at Barb Taub – Writing and Coffee. Especially Coffee and who writes the highly rated Urban Fantasy Null City novels for young adults two of which I have reviewed on this blog – Don’t Touch and Tales from Null City. Don’t know what urban fantasy is? Then spread your genre wings like I did and check them out – they come highly recommended!…and you don’ t have to be a young adult!

I am highly appreciative of the nomination Barb, many thanks, and although I am a bit rubbish at this sort of thing it has actually come at a very opportune moment as I would have been posting a taster of my WIP this weekend anyway – further details below…

However firstly I believe that I’m meant to nominate some other writers to do the same and the problem is not in knowing where to start but where to finish so like Barb I’ve picked on listed four (who have all been kind enough to nominate me in the past! I’m continuing Barb’s theme of no good deed going unpunished here!) and like her I would like to challenge every writer I know to join in and post for this WIP blog hop.

Heather Burnside blogs at Heather’s Wonderful World of Writing where she provides informative and entertaining articles regarding the writing industry.

Bill Cunningham blogs at W.C.Cunningham Writes and what he writes are thoughtful, beautiful posts filled with real life observation and humour.

Linda Huber blogs at Linda Huber where she writes light-hearted (mostly!) observations on life from her castle (okay flat) in Switzerland and she is in the middle of moving…again!

Luccia Gray blogs at ReReading Jane Eyre where she covers blog tours, book reviews and much more besides and although she is currently on holiday that minor detail has not stopped her from taking part in the A-Z April Blogging Challenge.

The rules are very simple:

  • Link back to the person who nominated you.
  • Write a little about and give the first few lines of your first three chapters from your WIP.
  • Nominate some other writers to do the same.

So, to my work in progress…

If you are interested you can check out the home page of my website for further details on the first two books in this trilogy…and yes, they do have to be read first to get the full flavour of what is about to follow.

This nomination came in on the same day I typed the last words needed to more or less finish off (okay it is a little light on words at the moment but that will come…right?) the third book in The Grayson Trilogy which I think will be called Thicker Than Water.

Initially a little horrified that I was going to have to show any of this jumble of a draft to anyone I’ve picked myself up off the floor and pulled together enough for a sneaky peek for you…so here goes.

Chapter 1

I was in denial.

Ignoring what was happening to me I closed down, unable to acknowledge the truth of it. Knowing if I did, if I faced what was coming, if I opened that box all the evils I’d spent so much time locking away deep inside would be loose once more and I feared what impact they would have on me now. I was afraid of what would inevitably become unavoidable, it was a foolish way to behave but that’s what I did and I got on with my life.

Chapter 2

The following morning I felt fine and set about my usual routine. Trent disappeared off up to the manor to do whatever it was he did there and I exercised Regan and led Benjy out first. Although it was dry and sunny there was an autumn chill in the air and I’d wrapped up warmly. Susie joined us, scampering through the fallen leaves back and forth wherever the scents and trails led her. We kept half an eye on each other, the distance between us never becoming too great.

Chapter 3*

It was the third week of March. Trent had got back the previous evening, his mood darkened with exhaustion and had spent the morning at the manor and yet I knew before he even got out of the truck he was leaving. He sat there watching me, deep in thought and I just knew.

*I have to be honest and tell you that this isn’t the start of chapter 3 because that gives far too much away and I can’t show you that…yet…

So I’ve shown you mine…how about letting us having a peek at yours?

  5. Thank you so much for nominating, Georgia. I’d love to take part. I’ll do my best to post sometime this week, although my WIP is still at an embarrassingly erratic stage:( But I’m so glad you’ve finished yours because I’m desperate to read more about Trent and Grayson:)

    • Thanks Luccia, and I’m delighted to you want more of Trent and Grayson 🙂 however whilst the draft is finished there is plenty to do yet so it will be a while!!

  6. Georgia, Sorry I’m a bit slow to respond but I’ve just returned from Spain and our broadband connection over there was terrible. Thank you for nominating me – much appreciated. I’m looking forward to reading your third book in the series and am pleased to hear that you’ve made so much progress. I can’t wait to find out what happens next as I recall that you left us with a mystery character at the end of the second book. 🙂
