I have to say, I’ve given up trying to find that ‘balance’ that you and Wendy mention. Writing comes first and that’s that, with some space allowed for basic hygiene and nutrition!! I suppose if I was really, really REALLY dedicated I would conform to that romantic notion of the writer forgetting to eat and waving away a sandwich brought by the spouse, and wearing the same clothes for days while creating the masterpiece. For a start, my shoulders couldn’t take it.

I’m on the last day of a concentrated writing jag (won’t tell you how many words!), though yesterday I did think, bloody hell, look at that gorgeous day, I need to at least feel a bit of it – and hobbled down the road! Now my knee is paying the price, and my elbow, finger and shoulder joints are paying the price for spending 4 days at the laptop.

Listen, people – do all that stuff you really want to do BEFORE the arthritis sets in!!!
