Nils

I have just had a brilliant evening! My BH and I bought tickets months ago to see Nils Lofgren on the UK leg of his tour which is celebrating 50 years of touring professionally – 50 years! Amazing…

I am more familiar with Nils when he is part of the E Street Band and have seen him live several times when they have toured with Bruce Springsteen so seeing him as a solo artist was a first. And I loved it.

Firstly, I was not expecting to walk into the foyer of the Cambridge Corn Exchange and find Nils standing next to the merchandise stand happy to meet people as they arrived. His wife, the formidable Amy, a warrior, I am reliably informed, was in charge of the merch. And was utterly charming when I bought my CD.

These are great people, warm, genuine and welcoming. They have goodness that shines out of them and you can tell that from their lovely faces. Nils shook my hand and graciously signed my ticket and was quite happy for me to take a photo of him with my BH.

So, on to the music. This tour is billed as an intimate acoustic evening of songs and stories. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but I really enjoyed it all. Nils is incredibly talented, playing acoustic as well as electric guitar, keyboards, a lever harp (I hope I got that right) and an accordion – and yes, I did know the piece of music he tested us with but my natural British reserve prevented me from calling out. I won’t tell you, dear reader, what it was either as I want you all to go and listen for yourselves.

Nils has a great voice and the music is country, folky rock ‘n’ roll… just what I like 😀 And wasn’t totally alone on that stage. He was ably accompanied by his back up band and foot percussionist, Greg Varlotta – also a very talented man. Greg played keyboards, guitar, trumpet and a great big piece of wood on the floor, brilliantly.

It is now past midnight and there is a reason why I am still up and writing this. Nils Lofgren is only going to be here for a few more days. The concerts he has coming up are here:

Friday 25 May – Tunbridge Wells, Assembly Hall

Saturday 26 May – Malvern, Forum

Monday 28 May – London, Barbican

Tuesday 29 May – Norwich, Theatre Royal

Wednesday 30 May – St Albans, Arena

Thursday 31 May – Cardiff, St David’s Hall

…and that is it. If you are near any of these places, and even if you aren’t go to ticketmaster.co.uk and get yourself some tickets, they are really good value and you won’t be disappointed. You can thank me later 😀

Spread the love

Thanks for the shout out. Very tempted to go to Cardiff to see him but unfortunately am stuck at home. Best of luck to Nils with the tour and well done for spreading the word!

    • You’re welcome, Christoph, thanks for commenting. It’s a shame you can’t go this time but from what he was saying last night he will be back with the band next year 🙂

  2. Thank you for stopping by my site. As a novice writer, it’s hard to break the barrier and get your name and books out there. I appreciate your support.

    • You’re welcome, and thank you for stopping by my site too. It is a pleasure to see you here. I totally understand what you mean about getting your name out there, I’m still trying too as well! Haha. We are all in the same boat so we might as well do what we can to stay afloat 😀
