Takes a lot of chutzpah to proceed as you have. I confess myself the guilty party and your neighbour who would have blown your cover sky-high, if I hadn’t already resigned from the Hunts Writers Group. That is a wonderful body of kindly people who are a tremendously helpful supportive collective to any one who gets thoroughly bitten by that writing bug. Me, I get bitten by all sorts of bugs, throw myself into the endeavour, then realise what everyone else recognises as a singular lack of talent, laugh at myself, and move on to the next craze. Thanks for the comment Wendy. This sounds like a very sensible route and I have had a couple of ideas and made starts on short stories as I thought of sending them in to magazines but my trilogy keeps bulldozing its way to the front of my mind. I’ve been obsessed with it and can’t seem to concentrate for long enough on finishing anything else off. I do think short stories would be very good for me work on though as they would tighten up my writing which tends to ramble on! I am looking forward to going to the group, which is strange as I’m generally not much of a ‘joiner’, though secretly I’m hoping the person I know won’t be there!

When I started writing I kept my head down, privately entering short story competitions in Writing Magazine and didn’t let on what I was up to until I started to get shortlisted! (A great start to learning the writing craft, btw, Writing Magazine. I can thoroughly recommend it.) What’s nice about joining a group, though, is the enjoyment and support you’ll get from being with others of like-mind. Good luck!
