I chose to read The Secret Life of Jasper Scragg as a member of Rosie’s Book Review Team and received a copy from the author, but that makes no difference to the review I write for it.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this entertaining novel. I’ll try not to give any spoilers, but suffice to say Jasper Scragg gets himself into a right pickle. He comes across as a nice guy who clearly adores his wife, Zoe. However, they have been through an extremely emotionally exhausting time, and one night, while dealing with the loss of his father, he makes a terrible decision.
This decision has major consequences, and this is where Jasper’s secret life starts. Of course, all secrets eventually have a way of coming out into the light, and this one is no different. How Jasper deals with the fallout shows what he really wants, however heart breaking that realisation is for him.
As you read this book, you really want there to be a happy ending, but you can’t quite work out how it’s going to get there.
The words flow as the writing is beautifully descriptive, light, funny in places and emotional when it needs to be.
French really gets into what makes her characters tick, and I highly recommend this accomplished novel to all who enjoy good storytelling and fabulous characters.

Thank you Georgia.
You’re welcome, Rosie.
