This is a collection of thoughts and impressions presented as poems and short stories and as such the title is an excellent one. I received a copy of this book some time ago now and it has taken a while to get to it but eventually it’s made its way to the top of the pile.
I particularly liked the poetry sections and Partings I and A Field of Poppies were among some of my favourites. Most of the short stories were very short and I liked The Ballet Shoe and the Wellington Boot. There’s also an intriguing final story that isn’t finished but fellow writers are encouraged to complete the tale themselves which is something I haven’t seen before.
There is plenty of variety in this book as Dee has brought together many pieces that he has written over decades. Many of the pieces are humorous and he manages to portray his characters clearly although with few words and obviously pays great attention when people-watching.
It sounds like a good read, Georgia. x
Thanks, Heather. It’s one you can dip in and out of too. x
