When Only Memories Remain is a book that tells the story of every parent’s worst nightmare. That one where your children go out and don’t come back. In this case there is an accident and tragically several families are affected.
Paul is the Church of Scotland Minister in the parish of Burnbrae and in a place where everyone knows everyone else he tries to support all those involved as best he can. As he deals with the organisation and emotions around the funerals he is also aware and considerate of the many different ways each person affected copes with their loss as they travel their own path through the stages of grief.
This story covers life well beyond the tragedy and the author has taken his time to really reflect on all aspects of grief and what it can do to people. There aren’t many lighter moments in it, but then with the subject matter you wouldn’t expect there to be. However, there is hope, there is always hope, it just takes some longer to make their way towards it than others.
